Building a custom sub enclosure?

What size plexiglass should i use for a custom bandpass sub enclosure?

  • i know the standard for sub enclosures are 3/4' MDF with 3/8" plexi... but i was wondering if i could get away with putting 1/4" plexi instead to save some money. does it make that big of difference between the two sizes?

  • Answer:

Thickness with any enclosure depends on the overall area of the pieces. The larger they are, the more the need for thickness. What you are trying to avoid are the pieces flexing. This can also be minimalized by adding internal braces. 1/4" plexi should be okay if it is a small piece.
