What kind of amp do i need for these?

What kind of capacitor do i need? I have a 6000 watt system and a 5000 watt amp.?

  • I am about to purchase all this... ABOUT so i cant tell you if the lights will dim or not. Im pretty sure i need a capacitor because the system is over 1000 watts. I am making a list of what i need and will go to a professional where they will hook it all up. So far i have the following: 4 12" kicker l5's (subs are bridged) 5000 watt amp (2 channel) 5000 watt Earth Quake wiring Kit and i dont know what kind of capacitor i need. There is no price limit but i dont want to spend too much. Looking for about $2000 tops (including installation) which is about 300 where i live. 110$ an hour.

  • Answer:

when it comes to car audio all you care about is the RMS (continuous) wattage not the peak/max wattage because they mean nothing at all and the reason i say this is because of the wattage numbers you listed (i don't think anyone makes a 5000watt (RMS or peak/max) 2channel amp (kicker makes a mono-block 10000watt RMS amp) if you are having charging issues you need to look into upgrading your big3 (wires) and if that does not solve it you can upgrade the cars battery, if you are still having problem you will need a higher output alternator (or second alternator depending on the car if possible) and then you can add extra batteries but just adding a capacitor is a waste of time and money not to mention it will add more stress to the cars stock charging system and make your charging issues WORSE

I recommend NOT getting a capacitor. THEY DO NOTHING! What i recommend is a yellow top battery by optima and do 0guage big three for the electrical system. Doing these 2 small upgrades would get you better performance then any cap out there. Caps are a waste of money. I had 4 12" kicker cvx's and used a cap and later pulled it out, did the big 3 and up graded my battery and what a difference. Save your time and money bro. if worst comes to worst and the big three and upgraded battery does not work, try a High Output Alt. After these upgrades you should be able to get full power and potential out of those subs guarantee it Steps for big 3 1) Pos from battery to pos on Alt 2)negative from battery to chasi on vehicle. "I like to use the bolts for the suspension 3) negative from battery to a solid bolt on the engine and watch your volts stay steady with such a small upgrade. recommend sanding all spots for grounds to get a better connection also don't let a professional tell u u need a cap. That's how they got me. there just trying to get money out of you. the big 3 and a battery will do 110% more for you then a simple cap will. trust me

Thats a big system you have there, and yes you are going to need a capacitor because it's over 1000 watts. I recommend looking on ebay to see if they have some good stuff, also theres a website called bargainshore . com that sells very good qualitycar audio and I think some accessories.

Your gonna need a whole lot more than a capacitor for that kind of power. Its 1 farad for every 500 watts i.e. 5 farad would cover 2500 watts. You don't really wanna push that kind of power on 4 12" l5 trust me, id go with a better woofer for that power, look at FI, RE Audio and Digital Designs. Dont go cheap because it WILL show once you are done.

don't get get a cap those r just pretty lights! what u should do is upgrade ur battery and get a 200amp alternator that will solve ur power problems!
