How do I install a subwoofer into a car?

I just got a subwoofer for a car. I want to know if I can just install the subwoofer in my car, if yes, how?

  • What kind of hardware do I need to install just my subwoofer to my stereo system in my car. The subwoofer is made by Audiobahn and it has two (what seems like) 11" subwoofer speakers.

    First off they donot make 11" subs they r probly 12" anywayz.... First go buy a wiring kit for an amp. Then you need to buy or maybe u already have an amplifier. You need a sterio that has usb cable connections. 1. Pull out your sterio let it hang there til we get back to it 2. Pull the red power wire from the wiring kit you just bought and set one end next to the battery of your car (make sure you have enough slack in the wire to later connect it) with the other end of the wire run it through your steering column area (there is a boot around that area) and poke a hole trhough the boot shove the wire through and go inside the car and pull the wire through the hole towards you (try to hide the wire) and bring the wire back where you r keeping the amp (usually the trunk). 3. (Leave the red wire alone for now) Now take the blue wire from the wireing kit (its called a remote wire) and connect it to the sterio. on the back of the sterio there is a wire called a remote wire. Make sure you tape it with black tape. Now you also want to run this like the red wire back to the amp. 4. Now take the rca wire out of the wiring kit and connect those to your sterio in the red and white rca jacks. run those back to the trunk. 5. inside the wiring kit there is another wire it is black and called the ground wire. take it to the trunk where the amp is. 6. find a place for the amp and mount it there. 7. drill a hole that is only a foot away from the amp 8. screw one end of the ground wire to the hole you just made and the other to the amp in a jack where it says "ground" 9. take the blue wire and connect it to the amp where it says remote wire 10. take the red wire and hook that up to the amp where it says power 11. go to the front by the battery and connect the red wire to the positive part of the battery 12. then go back in the car and put the sterio back in and enjoy your new subs

the guy above me is correct in his steps although he missed a few very important steps.. when you run the red power wire and the RCA cables run them on opposite sides of the car... if you don't the RCA cables may pick up static from the power lead and can distort the signal going to the amp also when drilling the hole for the ground connection be sure to take a dremel tool or heavy sand paper and scrap ALL the paint off the metal around the hole atleast an inch in all directions. both sides if possible ... Paint doesn't conduct electricity so mounting the ground to a painted surface will be bad. and like he said make sure you mount the ground as close to the sub as possible making the black cable as short as possible

You will need an amplifier that is rated for those subwoofers, and an install kit that would have a power wire to your battery, a ground wire, some RCA's, etc. The radio you are using should have RCA outputs in the back or you will need to get a line-out converter. Your install kit will have a step by step instruction kit. It is not hard to install but requires some time and wiring.

Go to geek squad. buy a wire kit, rca wires, enclosure and amp. This will all cost around 200. And then get it installed there. Better get it done by professionals than screwing up your whole ride, trust me.
