How big of an amp do i need?

How big of an amp do i need to push 4 10" subs?

  • i have 2 10" q-power duluxe and 2 10" super blues how much watts do i need to push that i know i need a 4 channel amp and all that but i already blew one amp so i wanna make sure im getting something big enough

  • Answer:

You do not need a 4 channel amp.. Those are used for mids and highs or door speakers. You need a mono amplifier ( single channel). Add up the RMS wattage of each speaker and that is the RMS wattage you need for the amp ( 4 x 600wRMS subs = 2400w RMS amplifier) You will also have to match up the ohm load of the amp to the ohm load of the speakers when all wired to the amp.

how do you think your going to get an accurate answer without stating what the peak or rms watt rating is on your subs?!?! I think you might be fine with a 1500 watt amp though

A 4 channel amp is typically for regular speakers, not subs. An example, four subs and each sub is 100 watts RMS @ 4 ohm and the amp is 400 watts @ 4 ohm, you will have no problems with wiring all four subs to the amp like so http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j230/sparky3489/SERIES-PARALLEL.jpg as this results in a 4 ohm load. This is with ALL matching subs. Your setup may be different as you don't give any information. More info here http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com

It's usually not recommended to mix and match subs. Cancellation comes into play. I'll need to know the impedance (in ohms), number of coils on each sub (SVC - single OR DVC dual), and the rated power handling of each sub (in RMS, not 'peak' or 'max') in order to give you an accurate answer. Update with this info, and i'll update my answer. NOTE: It would be best to just give me the model #'s of your subs... Have Fun!

if you're willing to waste the trunk space for 4 ten inch drivers you want some serious volume, otherwise you would be asking about one or two subs, instead. so, ignore the 4ohm route altogether, first - get two 2ohm stable amps, or splurge and get one 1ohm stable amp. second - get better speakers, or maybe just use one of them...how much sloppy, nasty, distorted, wet cardboard box bass sound could you possibly put up with? at least the q-power drivers are the "deluxe"models with the 3oz magnet. although I have never heard them, they are one of the few speakers that look more cheaply made than th pyramids you may pair them with.
