Subs for my truck help?

Question about wiring subs and amp?

  • I have a crunch ground pounder 800W amp and two 10 inch Orion 1100W subs in my truck. The subs are each 4 ohm svc subs and I have them each on their own channel. I also have 4 gauge power and ground wire and a 1 farid capacitor. My question is, is there a better way to wire things? I'm asking be ause with the amp turned all the way up on gain and bass boost, along with the sub turned all the way up on my stereo, it doesn't hit much harder than it did with a lightning audio 150W watt amp that I had before. And I have it wired the same way. I welcome any suggestions to fix this. The only thing is I can't spend any more money on different equipment like a mono block amp. Thanks for your help.

It would help if you'd stop looking at those BS peak power ratings. If manufacturers would advertise semi-accurate power ratings people might have realistic expectations of their equipment. You didn't mention any model numbers, so it's next to impossible to decipher exactly what you're dealing with, but the cheaper orions 10's (which are the only SVC 4 ohm option) are 200w rms each. I have no idea where 1100w is coming from. The current Crunch 2 channel that advertises 800w max (GPV800.2) uses a 30A fuse and is capable of no more than 400w rms, probably 125 or 150x2 at 4 ohms stereo. Cranking the gain is not a good practice, and cranking the bass boost is even worse. There's really no other way to wire a pair of svc 4's on a 2 channel amp. Are you using the low pass filter correctly? The switch should be set to LPF and the LPF dial should be in the 80-100hz range.
