What kind of car speakers should I buy?

  • I bought a car with a kicker sound system. The front speakers blew and I don't hear any tweaters working ether. I think I'd like to stick with kicker but I don't know a lot about stereos. What are component speakers? Will any size speaker fit in the cars door? Should I find a friend that can help me install the speakers, or am I better off bringing my car to best buy and letting them deal with everything?

    First, go to Crutchfield.com and use their "Outfit my Car" feature. This will tell you what size speakers for your car. Second, component speakers are when the tweeter and woofer ore physically separate from each other and require a crossover to separate signals. Components sound WAY better but require more power to be as loud as two way or three way speakers (where the tweeter is mounted on top of the woofer). Component speakers also sound best with an amplifier. And no offense, since you didn't know these things I would get a friend to help or take it to a car audio specialty shop, I wouldn't always trust Best Buy. (I know this because I used to work there). Hope this helps and as far as what brands of speakers, look beyond just Kicker. I would highly recommend Alpine or Polk Audio

i heard that if you buy the equipment from best buy they do the install for free,look into this.or if your going to take the job on with a friend just remove one front and one rear speaker. the stereo will still play and you will know just what size speaker is in there,your door speakers are coaxial speakers and the rears are 3 way if there after market speakers.this way you will know for sure whats in there you never know until you have one in your hand.good luck with your sound system.
