  • I recently just bought myself two DVC pioneer champion woofers running 350w rms (1200w max) at 4 ohms. I am looking to buy a Kenwood KAC-9105D mono amplifier. This amp puts out 500w rms at 4 ohms, 900w at 2 ohms, and 900+w at 1 ohm. My question is what would give me better sound quality? Under power my subs by 100w each or overpower at 100+w. Im worried that under powering my subs could cause this so called clipping while overpowering could provide distortion and possibly overheat my subs. I have not bought the amp yet so if anyone out there has a better solution on a $200 budget please let me know. Thanks and Happy New Year

    I wouldn't buy that kenwood amplifier. Kenwood has had lots of trouble with its class d amplifiers. Overheating, cutting off, failing etc. For budget amplifiers look at audiopipe and hifonics.

you need a match for RMS to what the sub woofers add up to.at 4 ohms.so in your case you need a class d or mono amp that is putting out 700 RMS at 4 ohms.both of the sub woofers RMS ratings has to be added together.and if your sub woofers are rated to run at a 4 ohm load and wire them right you will be running them at a 2 ohm load.go to the electron ix warehouse.com/education or rockford fosgate.com/rf wiring wizard and look at the wiring diagrams.the RMS rating is the continuous power a class d amplifier can make and a sub woofer can handle at whatever the subs are rated to run at,most are 4 ohm subs.good luck.take a look on eBay then car audio then class d amplifier and this will show you many.rockford fosgate is the way to go if you want clean power you can depend on.and kenwood is not the way to go.
