Where should I connect my remote wire?

Amp No POWER - power wire reads 12V on meter but when i connect to amp, drops to 1V or less, remote wire is fine

  • I have tested my power and ground wire both connected to a power meter and it reads 12v. I have tested the remote wire connected to the amp, reads 12v as well. Connected the ground wire, and connect the power, when I check power on the line after it connected to the amp, its reads between 0. and 1 volts. I dont know whats goin on... I get the same result for both my amps.

  • Answer:

that is definitely strange.... The power wire should be connected to the battery and fused within 8" of the positive post on the battery. Check the connection at the battery, it could be loose. Bad ground- If you are reading voltage between the positive terminal and the negative terminal, and you have a bad ground, you will get a reading like this. Reground your amplifiers to a clean, bare metal spot within 3' of the amplifier. scrape away all paint until you are down to the bare metal. Power wire connected to power source other than the battery. This should not be done. The power should come directly from the battery.

think SHORT!!! if you have your wires right the amp is shorting to ground internally. Power measurements with no load should be 13.8

try checking the fuse on ur power cord. some times it might look like its still good but in real its blown or no good. try putting a new one and see what happens.

you have a bad ground or bad connection also replace the fuse it can be melted
