Car speaker?

Car speaker without standard holes?

  • My stock speaker in my car is a 6.5 inch speaker, and it has 3 holes, equally spaced apart around the speaker. I want to put in after market speakers, but so far as i can find out, all the aftermarket speakers, its standard for them to have 4 holes, so i dont know what to do now... ALSO..i have a 2002 kia rio, crutchfield did not list the correct size of speaker for my car, it said its a 5 1/4 inch, its DEFINATELY not, its a 6 1/2 inch speaker for sure

  • Answer:

The hard way: Drill your new speakers another two holes with a metal bit, and ask your friend to hold them (with security gloves) tightly while you make the 2 holes. Do this over a wooden surface that you don´t mind to damage. Hold the speaker facing down, to avoid any accidents. The easy way: Screw the three other holes in the plastic housing in your door panel, while using pointed screws for wood/plastic.

I prefer to use self-tapping sheet metal screws, when I install speakers, instead of whatever is there, because it's always more secure. Plus you get the one more mounting hole to add with the fourth screw, which is one less chance of it rattling. Crotchfield is usually pretty good, but I like to pick out all of their mistakes, like wrong pre-out voltage, or wrong pic of equipment ( my subs were correct, but not the ones in their pics, that I ordered from them ) Hope that helps...
