How many watts does my stock stereo put out?
-
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. ST. Just the regular factory/stock CD player/radio. I have heard around 15-30 but I'm not sure, I installed 300 watt speakers so I assume I should upgrade the stereo right?

Answer:
DO NOT LOOK AT THE MAX WATTAGE! Look at the rms, or nominal, of the speakers. And yes, Your factory stereo is probably only putting out 15-30 watts rms. But, most aftermarket stereos will put out the same, if not less. The loudness You're seeking will not come from the stereo, it will come from and amplifier. You could buy a small 4-channel amplifier...

factory stereo (or one you buy separately) is ok for up to some 30-50W max. beyond that you need amplifier.
