What amp should I get for my car?

What amp should I get for my car?

  • I have a 2005 Ford Taurus I alread have an idea of the head unit I want but cant decide on what amp and speakers I want. The factory speakers are size 6x8 and there are 4 of them right now (max 5 with 2 front 3 back). I want to get an amp that is about the same size of my current amp so that it can fit in that same spot without drilling new holes or cutting new wires. Any ideas would be great, price is not factor because I want a quality sound system. Also if you know of any websites I may visit to extend my search I would appreciate it.

wow@i answered this once just now and my screen froze but I'll type it again... Ah Ha.. so its an amp that you want first thing you have to know is what you have in mind.. if you want an amp just for the regular component speakers in your car or if you have subs in mind.. if its just the components that you want to power than you want to make sure that you get an amp with at least 4 channels so that you can make sure that all of the power is going to each individual speaker without you having to splice the wire to do so... for this I recommend going with a JL Audio amp... they are a little bit pricey but you definately get what you pay for.. next... if you have getting subs in mind then you definately want to decide what subs you want before you get an amp because you want to make sure that it is impedence matched and rms matched in order to get the best sound and performance out of your speakers and amp... both of which i can explain at a later date if you wish... for this I would again suggest JL audio again you get what you pay for :D

o.k. i'll start with the speakers. you say you want sound quality and price is not a issue (within reason i assume). I would recomend getting 6 1/2" components speakers, search ebay and you'll find bolt in adaptor plates that will hold the 6 1/2" speaker and the tweeter in the same area as the 6x8. the 6x8 size gives more bass but addes distortion due to the non-round speaker. as far as brands take there are so man to choose from and its really about personal preference, boston, and infinity kappa are a couple of good components, but there are many more. I would also recommend a 10" or 12" sub. it really gives the music depth even if you are not a bass head. again check around see what apeals to you. for a deck i wold look at anything that is CEA-2006 certified, with kenwood, alpine, and pioneer premier, and eclipse being my favorite four. for a amp, again look for a cea-2006 certified. alpine makes some great amps that take up very little room, so it coul likely fit where your other one did with room to spare. below ae some sites to shop at.

What size is your current amp? If price is not a factor you can look into some awesome things but I would like to mention you can buy perfection for 2000 and awesome for 200 so in reality what are you willing to spend?
