How many RMS does my 2 12" jbl subs have?

Need amplifier for three 12 inch 400 watt rms subs?

  • I have three 12 inch 400 watt rms subs, and need an amp, heres some info on the subs: have three 12 inch 400 watt rms each subwoofers, here is some info: Power Handling Capabilities: 400 Watts RMS to 800 Watts Maximum Recommended Power: 30 Watts to 800 Watts 2” Parabolic RFL Voice Coil 4 Ohm Impedance Efficiency / Sensitivity 98dB @ 1 Watt / 1 Meter I have a 2400 watt 2 channel amp, but I think its too little for the subs, and a 4000 watt 2 channel amp, but I think its too much for the subs. I was wondering if a 3200 or a 3600 watt amp can be enough to power them?

  • Answer:

you will have to wire them parallel (all speaker positives to amp positive, and all speaker negatives to amp negative) This will give you 1.33 ohms. You need a mono amplifier that puts out 1200 watts RMS at 1 ohm, 2400 watts peak. The 2 channel will not work. The 3200 watt amp will be too much, but can be adjusted down with the gain.

the 2 ch amp wont work unless its bridgeable to 1 ch @ 1 ohm .you will need a mono amp that is 1 ohm stable and puts out 1200 watts rms here are a few examples http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=12790 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14759 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16367
