Car audio amplifier cuts of, Clipping......?
-
hello, my subwoofer amplifier ("DIRECTED D2400") cuts out only when reaching deep deep bass notes i am powering two 15" hifonics brutus subwoofers both wired up two ohms 700 watts RMS each which is a total of 1400 watts RMS... the total output of the amp is 2400watts (i think) so why does it switch off and turn back on again after a few seconds

Answer:
this one? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4336_DEI-Directed-Audio-D2400.html If that's your amp it's capable of 1200w rms -- 600w per sub. These subs? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_m27_i42_hifonics-15-subwoofers.html They are dual 4 ohm voice coils so in order to get 1200w out of the amp they need to be wired for 1 ohm, like this: http://m.seimg.net/product/img/subwoofer_wiring/2_subs_DVC_4_ohm_mono_variation2.jpg or if you're using both of the amp's outputs you'd do this twice: http://m.seimg.net/product/img/subwoofer_wiring/1_sub_DVC_4_ohm_mono.jpg If that is the scenario you have, you need to be running at least 4 awg power and ground wire. If your wire's too small there can be significant voltage drop in the wire, possibly enough to put the amp in low voltage protection. Another possibility would be a bad connection at anywhere in the power/ground path. Commonly the ground connection is not adequate to carry enough current for the amp. Your ground wire should be attached to an unpainted, clean location somewhere on a significant piece of the car's metal.

Your probly putting to much of a load on it its a "2400w"peak in other word it is not putting that out u have to look at rms and u said its wired to 2 ohms for each sub depending on how u wired them it could be 2 ohm or 4 ohm total if the dual voice coil that is if. There dual voice coil you can wire them down to 1ohms if your amps stable at that load so be carful I would call cruchfeild and say u bought the amp subs from them and then tell them what your amp is and they will tell u of it will work Plus how to wire it they have diagrams and everything so be on there web site when u call so they can tell the info and show u diagrams at the same time but that's all I got

is it going into protect or just shutting off? if it is just shutting off it could have a bad connection somewhere or the amp is not getting enough current
