Where should I connect my remote wire?

I would like to know if you can actually connect the amp without the remote wire.?

  • I cant get into the HU since its a factory Navigation unit and there is no way I can get to the remote wire from the HU. I try to connect but no power to the amp. I also put a switch on the power wire that goes to the amp to turn on and off the power since there is no remote wire to do that but it was unsuccesful. Any advice? Thanks

    You can use any switched 12v source (I've used the cigarette lighter before) for the remote. Also, I'm curious as to how you plan on receiving an audio signal for your RCAs without removing your HU.

You need to find a wire that turns on when the car does usually one that connects to the ignition. Once you find the right one you can use an electrical clamp to run a wire to the amp.

First off, the main power wire should not be switched, to do so would require a high current switch, but nonetheless it does not need to be done anyways. What you need to do is look for a switched voltage source in the fuse panel, this will only have power when the key is on. The fuse for the radio/nav would be perfect. You can buy fuse taps, or I prefer add-a-circuit which allows you to plug it right in to the fuse holder, with a wire connected to go to the remote. It also will have 2 fuse holders so that you may fuse the second circuit as well, which you should do any way you choose to do it, 1 amp is all you need. Once you have the fuse tapped, run the wire to the remote terminal of the amp. Also it would be OK if you choose to put a switch on the remote wire, which will allow you to turn the amp of at will, for say listening to the radio with the car off for long periods of time, so you don't kill the battery,

You can buy a line output converter thats used for converting the signal from the factory speakers to rca level inputs, find one that has remote sensing, they are cheap on ebay, this will give you a remote wire. Easiest way, I do it all the time
