How to wire an amp in a car without a deck?

What size is 2001 deville factory subwoofer and how to wire in different amp?

  • I have a 2001 cadillac deville dts with a factory subwoofer in the rear deck panel. I cannot tell what size it is. I wanted to replace it with a better one and also wire in a different amp. I found what appears to be the BOSE amp inside the trunk area behind the rear seat, but it has a dozen wires going to it, so i'm assuming it powers all the car's speakers. Does anyone know a way to wire in an amp just for the sub?

  • Answer:

I believe it is a 9" sub, but you can probably get a 10" in by rear loading. Just connect a high-to-low adapter to the original wires on the sub to convert it to RCA for a new amp. Since the woofer isn't in an enclosure, you should get a woofer design for "free air" or "open air" installations. These drivers are designed with a stiffer surround to perform better outside a real enclosure.
