Where should I connect my remote wire?

Where do I connect the remote wire when using a stock stereo head?

  • I am adding an amp to my friend's car for the sub woofers he just bought. I am using a line converter for the signal. The only problem I am having is that I need a place to run the remote wire to turn on the amp. It's a 98 Camry with a stock stereo head. Any ideas?

try testing the black and red wire that comes out of the stereo to see if it cuts on and off with the stereo. another solution is to use the PAC SNI-45T. it is spliced into the stereo wiring. it provides "rca" audio outputs for your amp . it also senses when an audio signal is present and controls power to the remote wire of the amp. this causes the amp to turn on and off with the stereo. i use this thing alot when intergrating aftermarket amps to factory systems that dont have "rca" outputs or an amp remote output. and finally your last resort is to just run a wire from a power source, be it a fuse or a wire from the back of the stereo(usually grey wire), that cuts off when you cut off the ignition switch and put a toggle switch on it and connect your amp remote wire to it to turn your amp on and off. hope this helps.

if you want to wire the remote wire directly to the head unit youll need to connect the wire directly to the head unit power. it is usually blue, same as the remote wire, if no such wires are there find a wiring diagram on line http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/2045.html or http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Toyota-Wiring.pdf both these sites say blue with yellow stipe

Go to Lowes buy little blue "tap in connectors" they are great. tap the REM wire into the headunit power source. all the remote(REM) wire does is sense if the car is on, therefore you need to run the wire to a 12v power source.

you can run it on the fuse box with any spot that turns power on when you turn the key switch... or you can install a toggle Switch to your battery to the remote

AMADOR

You could catch a switched accessory at the radio, ignition harness, or possibly the cigarette lighter. Make sure you fuse it.
