What exactly will I need to run two 12" subs through my car?

Which amp to buy for 2 12" w3013ps subs?

  • I am going to be buying the kenwood 12" w3013ps subs (2 of them), and i need help on choosing an amp. I have been looking into the KAC-9105D (1800w) and the Excelon XR-1s. I am not a rookie on sound systems, just looking for other opinions. So i dont want to underpower them by much, and if i get a bigger amp then they can take i can tune it perfectly for them. In my previous car i had two p3's with a hfi1500D amp running 1000rms at 2 ohms. So i am just wondering what amp you guys would suggest to run these, and also a ported or sealed box and what cu. ft.? I was also considering just going with another hifonics amp, since the one i had for the p3's was powerful, cool running, and reliable. So give me your suggestions!

  • Answer:

they'll be running 800 watts rms so I'd look for an amp that's about 1000 watts rms .. Kenwood's a decent company for amps but I prefer ones like Rockford Fosgate and Alpine, try an Alpine MRP-M1000 (1000 watts at 2 ohms and about $300) but for the $350 you're probably going to spend on the subs you could probably do better, a single Sundown, Rockford, Alpine, or JL would pound harder
