How to hook up car speakers to an amp?

How to hook up an amp and subs to a deck and only play bass through the subs but not in-car speakers?

  • So I recently hooked up my two 12 inch Kicker subs with my Rocksford Fosgate Amp into a new Kenwood deck in my car. Everything works fine, but its not the same as when I had somebody else hook up the system on my last car. I noticed that my in-car 6x9 speakers were still pumping bass, so I turned down the bass on my stereo deck so i wouldn't blow out my factory speakers, but the subs in the trunk turned down as well. My last set up allowed me to turn off the bass on my stereo deck and still get bass from the subs. I remember the guy working on my system saying he was hooking up the wires in order to send bass only to the subs. How can I do this? I don't know what wires to hook up where in order to only get bass playing from the subs and not my regular in-car 6x9 speakers. Please Help!! Thanks

  • Answer:

i always have at least 2 amps for my highs and lows, this prevents speaker damage
