Why is my stereo head unit turning off?

Car stereo head keeps shutting off?

• The head unit is a Pioneer DEH-P8600MP which is about 7-10 years old. It was already in the car when I bought it. I have had no trouble with it up until Saturday night. I was sitting at my husbands work waiting for him and suddenly the stereo shut down and came back on. It has been doing this randomly ever since. Sometimes it doesn't shut completely off, other times it shuts down and stays off for 5-10 minutes or longer then comes back on. It does it with and without a cd in. And when it shuts off, there is no turning it back on until it decides to come back on. It's not losing memory. The clock and my settings don't reset and if a cd is playing it will pick up where it left off. I have led lights across my dash. When the car is off the lights run, when the car is started the lights turn off. These lights are hooked up to the radio's aux. power and were installed by the previous owner. I tell you this info because when the radio shuts off the lights come on even when the car is running. We thought maybe it was a loose connection so we took the head unit out and checked and everything is tight. No loose fuse or wires. No exposed wires. Could it be my head unit finally going out or is it possibly something else?

  The unit has finally given out. 7-10 years is a long time for that setup.
