What exactly will I need to run two 12" subs through my car?

What are ohms in relation to car subwoofers and amps? What amp would i need for two 12" 2 ohm subs?

  • I am looking to buy 2 subs for my car and i am confused about ohms. If i have 2 12 inch subs 300 watts RMS each and they each run at 2 ohms, what amp would i need? As in how many ohms would the amp need?

  • Answer:

Cant go wrong with a two channel by 300 watts rms at 2 ohms rockford fosgate amp... it'll give you great sound. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?item_id=107996&locale=en_US&p_status= Don't buy from the company, it costs too much, buy from sonic electronix for hundreds less. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8894_Rockford-Fosgate-Power-T600-2.html?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=froogle

ohms is the independecy load the subs will run the amp, you would need a 600 watt rms amp 1200 watt max fyi dnt go by maxx ratings. and the amp will need to be 1 ohm stable which is a class d mono block amp. since you have 2 two ohm subs and you parrallel the wire set up which is positive to positive and negative with negative it will drop the load to 1 ohm, and if you series them then the load goes up to 4 ohms. the lower the ohms the more power you get. do not get a 2 channle amp and bridge the subs becuse two channle amps are not 1 ohm stable.

if you got a mono amp like an alpine 500 which are fairly cheap can pick one up for $150 you will be more than fine running your two subs you can change the ohms on how you wire your subs up look at sub wiring guides on google that should help you out there will be pictures

Ohms (Z) are impedance: a measure of how the coil in the speaker resists changes in EMF currents.(Not to be confused with Ohms (R) which measure resistance. All it means is that your amp has to be stable down to 2 Ohms.
