In order to buy something, you go to a store. In this case, your referring to car audio equipment, therefore you will drive your vehicle to a car audio specialty store or a retailer like car toys or best buy, at this point you will walk up to the counter & tell the salesmen that you wish to purchase a rockford fosgate sound system for your car & you have budgeted $500 for this task. He will then direct you to what you can afford & fill you in on the whole checkout process at this time, after of course you have made your selection with his help. Did that answer your question?

For $500 you'll want to skip the sub/s right now.. spend the money on a good source unit, speakers for the front, an amp for them and sound deadener for the doors. Buying online will save you plenty of money. Installing the front speakers right, with a good amp and headunit is a great starting point for a good sounding system ! Then save your money and buy a 10" or 12" RF subwoofer, monoblock amp and wiring kit, and pay a shop to build a custom ported enclosure to suit your sub. This will cost another $500 or so.. but the end results will be a LOT better than if you try and get subs, amps, speakers, headunit for the $500.

Follow the 'sources' links, my son, and read on to glory! BTW, don't get RF just because a friend has it. Shop for the best stuff you can afford. Never mind brand names, find reviews of the actual equipment you're interested in.

you cant redo a whole system for 500 bucks and sounds like ya need the whole getup. kenwood excelon on closeout you can get for 150 online. directed d600 amp on ebay for 110. wiring kit for amp 40-50 bucks. component speakers for front pioneer for 120 or so through partsexpress.com. comb your local craaigslist for a decent sub in a box. i bought a jlaudio12w3 for my son in a box for 60.. just look it over, listen to it at high and low level... run a voltmeter across it to ee if it checks out good.then a good set of rear speakers that match up with maker of component system.
