How to install subwoofers in a car?

I want to install subwoofers in my car?

  • if i want to install subwoofers into my car, and my stereo already has a pre-amp, do i also need/would it be best to install another amp as well?

  • Answer:

Yes radios Preamp are just for speakers not for subwoofers..and even then a amp for your speakers would sound alot better and louder and more clearly versus your preamped radio. you will need wiring and a amp to summarize Go to my youtube channel it will teach you how to match your subwoofer to your amp wattage wise..if you need any other help i will be their to reply asap so feel free to leave comments and i will help as much as i can http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM5AK1Fz2jA

It depends on your system and your taste. If you have a 4-channel amp which is powerful enough, you could use subs for the rear speakers instead of the usual smaller full-range speakers. I personally wouldn't use big powerful boy-racer type subs, if I wanted to boost the bass I'd just get a couple a good quality smaller subs, say 6 or 8 inch to use in the back. But many people prefer to use a powered sub which will need power cables, as well as an audio cable from your pre-amp. The thing about big subs is that they take up a lot of boot space, and they can damage your hearing, some people buy 1000 watt amps which is silly for a car, with decent speakers 20 watts per channel is quite enough to blow your head off.

if you want to do this you best talk to a pro audio installer about this if you have any kind of pre amp this will not do the job. you can run into problems.and yes you do need a mono or class d amplifier to run sub woofers.if its a newer car that came with some kind of powered system, buy changing it could screw up other options that are in your ride.like i said go to a car audio installer and tell him what your thinking of doing so you know for sure its ok to do this safely. information is free at these audio places.its better to be safe than sorry.hope this helps.

You will need another amp, the pre amp is just for the door and rear speakers, you need a separate and more powerful amp for your subs

Rick

Buy a couple of big butch dogs.
