What can I use to play my iPod in my car?

My car has an thing to play my ipod but i dont know how to use it?

And others still have to have an adapter and you control your i pod with the steering wheel controls. We need your year make and model of car to best serve your questions. The last one gets expensive and usually available only at your car dealer.
