How do I remove the rear deck/rear speakers on a 2-Door 2003 Pontiac Grand AM GT?
-
Just trying to swap the 6x9 Monsoon Speaker-Tweeter combo's with a couple new units as my originals are blown out. Can't get the rear deck out, the passenger side seems stuck and won't slide out. The procedure I've used is folding down the rear seats, taking out the speed clips on the trim, and trying to take the rear deck out that way. Any help would be appreciated!

It is NOT fun. First you need to pull the bottom of the back seat out then the back part. Then you must pull the rear side panels out. Check for screws prior to pulling on the panel. Then pop the third brake light out(if it on the rear deck). Then pop off the rear deck. Once you get the rear speakers out I would recommend screwing the speakers in from the bottom so you dont have to go through this again if you have a problem. I would suggest paying a shop to do it, it might be worth the few bucks to save the headache.

If it's like my 99' park avenue with the concert sound III system (I believe the older version of the Monsoon) they have a type of pushpin setup that holds them in place. If when you lay down in the trunk (looking up at the bottom of the 6x9's) you see plastic tabs on each corner of the 6x9 instead of your typical bolt/nut setup from the 80's, this is the pushpin setup. How I got mine out (after trying to do what you did), I took a pair of needlenose pliers, clamped them on the most inner part of the pushpin & with a firm quick tug, pull on the pliers. It took 2 or 3 times, but eventually, the center part of the pin came out & then the outer part of the pin fell. The other best way I can describe it is when you try to hang a picture on a screw that you have to put in drywall. You would drill a hole in the drywall, insert a molly (the outer pin) into the hole, then put the screw (inner pin) into the molly. when you turn the screw, the molly expands & is held in the wall. same setup that was holding my speakers in.
