Where is the amplifier in a radio?

How do I run speaker from the back of the radio to an amplifier?

  • I am installing an amplifier in my car and I have absolutely everything memorized and understood as to how to install it. I have an issue though, I recently installed a aftermarket radio in my car and there is a speaker wire harness installed. I'm guessing that the speaker wires are running through the wire harness into the back of the radio. My question is how do I run the speaker wire from the back of the radio into the amplifier. Do I need to install totally new wire? or can I use the existing wire in place?

  • Answer:

You need a Line Level Converter. Costs around $12- $18. It converts your speaker wire to RCA to hook into your amp. Check Circuit City, Best Buy or the like.

the amp can take either rca's or speaker wire. just plug in the wires from the stereo into the amp, and run speaker wire out from the amp into the speakers.

if you have the rca jacks run those from the stereo to the amp and there is a spot on the amp to run wire to the speakers . Go get a wiring kit it will have all the wires you need to do this including for the power and ground you also need to connect a remote wire which comes off the radio also unless you put a switch in it I do this all the time if you need help let me know
