How do I get my cd out of the car stereo?
-
I was recently in a car accident, and the fire fighters cut my battery lead on my car. My dad and I went to the compound the next day to retrieve my cd player from the car since the car is a write-off. My problem, is that there is still a cd in the deck. How do I get it out without damaging anything? The cd was needs to be returned to my work.

Answer:
hook up the stereo to a 12 volt power source and ground. most easily this can be done by connecting the "acc" (hot) lead (wire) (from the stereo) to a car battery (directly), and the ground to a grounding source on the car. press eject.

You can ask your dad to help you, find the power wire on the back of the cd player, and hook it to something that gives off power, i cant think of a specific example, but your dad or you should be able to do it, if you dont have any expirence splicing wires, i wouldnt attempt it alone. then the head unit should power up, and you should be able to eject the cd!

If you still have the wiring harness (or part of it) then attach the black wire to a ground and give the red wire 12V DC for long enough to hit eject 12V DC shouldn't be difficult to come up with - many of the little 'wall warts' (transformer/rectifiers) will list their output (mostly in DC) - just find one of the xformers from an old stereo or something that says "Output 12VDC" - it should have both your + and -

Take the radio out and take it apart, or jumper the wire that was cut and power it up to remove the cd.

Pop off the stereo cover and find the screws that hold it in. Unsrew them and remove unit. Unplug wires. You'll have to connect it to another cars stereo power line or to the fusebox. Once it has power open it & retrieve disc. You could also hook up another battery to the old wreck and take the disc if you don't want the stereo.

You could try hooking it up to a 12 volt power source. If it's a factory installed CD player, that might not work. Some car stereos are designed so they can only work in the original car. You might have to take it to the dealer, unless you are willing to try to disassemble it yourself.
