How do you get a RDS radio to unlock?

• I have a 2002 chevy malibu. and i recently brought a used rds radio from another malibu. But when the battery is off the radio works, when its hooked up it locks. And somebody told me you have to unhook the radio then try to get 2 sets of 3 digit codes but how can i, if the radio doesn't lock when disconnected. And Chevy wants to charge me $85-$130 to fix. I know its a simple problem. i just don't know what to do.

  The rds radio in your malibu can only be unlocked by you local GM dealership.Call you local dealership and see if they are any charge.The radio has to be unlocked with a tec-2 hand scanner.It will clear the bcm code and the radio will work ok.The dealer might need to relearn the new radio to the bcm for normal oreration.
