My car amplifier not working in my car.

My car amplifier just stopped working, any suggestions?

  • My car amp was working fine ever since i installed it, but the other day it just stopped working. It would turn on about 2 minutes after i turn the head unit on and then turn off after about 5 minutes. I've checked all the connections, even changed the speakers bought new RCA cables disconnected the remote wire and reconnected it. I looked at the green power LED it turns on when i turn the head unit on which means its got 12v comming to it and the remote wire is working fine. The earth wire is also connected well. I changed the fuse although it wasnt burned. The amp has never gone into protect mode never felt it hot or anything. The speakers are new i dont know what to do. Please any suggestions would be grateful. Below are the specifications of the amp and speakers. Maximum output power (Amp) The amp is 1500 watts 2 x 500 Watts @ 4 ohms Specifications speakers(per pair): Power Handling (Peak) each speaker is 500 watts 1,000 watts both together Impedance 4 ohms

  • Answer:

You didn't mention how you have the subs wired. If you have (2) 4Ohm subs bridged on a 2ch. amp, it would load the amp @2Ohms, most all 2Ch. amps can only 'see' 4Ohms, bridged. Connect (1) 4Ohm speaker to each side. If it's a mono (1 Ch.) amp, it should be fine to bridge both speakers to the (1) connection on the amp. Also, double-check ALL connections. Also, your gains may not be set right. This can cause all kinds of problems To set your gains, 1. Turn gain(s) on amp all the way down. 2. Turn EQ on HU to 'flat', all at '0'. Bass boost on amp 'off'. 3. Turn volume on HU as high as you'll ever turn it up. 4. SLOWLY turn gain(s) on amp up until you hear distortion, then back down a little. Your gain(s) is now set. Crank it up! Good Luck!

Try a bigger power wire and remote wire! It sounds like its trying to pull to much fire to the amp through a wire thats to small!!!

Javin Ms attempt to tell you how to set the gain is the totally wrong way to do it and can cause major problems down the road. To properly set the gain use this http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=6d26c621 You'll need Microsoft Excel, a multi-meter and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.
