Should I bridge my amp?

I have a sony xm-2165gtx 2/1 channel amp and 2 12s, i was wondering how to bridge the amp and subs?

  • i was told i had to bridge my subs before i bridge my amp but this kind of stuff confuses me so if you can help id apreciate it.

  • Answer:

The people telling you to do that have no clue what they are talking two, when you bridge an amp you have to keep the impedance higher than if you ran each channel independently, so for 2 12s and a Sony amp, the lowest impedance you can run it at is 2ohms for stereo, or 4 ohms for mono, so your best bet would be to just wire each sub up to each channel. Ex: Wire the left sub up to the left channel, wire the right sub up to the right channel. This is not bridging, but it's the most power you can safely get out of your amp. You can run them bridged, and they will work for a couple of weeks, but you're going to be buying a new amp pretty quickly if you do.
