May be buying a GPS soon... lots of questions!?

I'm thinking of getting a GPS for my husband for his birthday. I've heard a lot of complaints about GPS not being very accurate and taking the long route to places. Is there any truth in this? Which model would be the best for a relatively cheap price? Is there generally an installation fee if I buy it at Circuit City or Best Buy? Is there a monthly fee to use the service?

I don't know what brand is cheap but you buy it just plug in cigarette lighter without installing fee or monthly fee,not too hard to use it.It's not accurate 100% but about 90% ,if you take long route it let you chose three route to destination depend on you pick which way.
