Will adding bigger gauge monster cables make your subs hit harder?
-
I have super thick (4 gauge i believe) wires for the positive and ground terminals going into my 1000.1 watt amp and i know that they are supposed to be thick... But i just have normal speaker wire for my 2 12" subs and i was wondering if adding thicker monster cable wires will make my subs hit any harder? I want my subs to be at their full potential and have the most reliable overall system i can have but will adding monster cable wires really make a difference? Time and money is absolutely not a factor in this case as im willing to do even the slightest of things to make my system that much better. (Given that im not changing my amp and subs any time soon!)

Answer:
that depends on what you mean by normal. You probably need 12 awg to reduce the inherent losses to something insignificant. If you're using 16 or 18 awg wire it would definitely be wise to upgrade, although the audible improvement will be minimum. The length of the wire and impedance you're running at would be needed to calculate the specifics. The current flowing on the output side of the amp is flowing at a relatively high voltage, therefore lower current - which allows for smaller gauge speaker wire vs the low voltage high current coming in on the power side - which commonly requires 4 awg wire.

4ga is good for power... 12ga is good on speaker... 10ga could even be used but the main point is going bigger will never hurt, but it wont help if you have adequate size now. 12ga minimum out of the amp.

It will help decrease resistance and that is a good thing.. being that when you go with a larger gauge cable from a really small cable like 18 gauge.

Yes.

1st bfore U change anything U have to try other methods like an eq a crossover and masterfully tweak all these gadgets Perfectly to maximize your sound maybe a capacitor do you have a performance alternator installed and a red-top batt. is that the best radio... U can tweak a system on a 8 gauge wire so do all U can do 1st cause U will need to change amps if U go to a 1.0 or a 0.0,,,
