Is this combination of HU and speakers good for my car?
-
I am looking for a good combination of head unit and speakers for my new Skoda Rapid Ambition. The car has space for 6.5" circular speakers in the 4 doors. The combination I have thought of till now---- Head unit: Alpine CDE-100EUB (MRP Rs. 7990) Front Speakers: JBL GT6-S266C 260W 2-way component system (MRP Rs. 5990) Rear Speakers: JBL GT6-S266 220W 2-way coaxial speaker (MRP Rs. 3490) My question is whether this combination will be good enough and will the speakers work well with the head unit because i read in the specifications of the HU that it is 4 * 50W, and for the coaxial speakers RMS is 55W while for the components it is 65W. If my combination does not seem good, please suggest which head unit and speakers I should go in for?? My budget is Rs. 15000-20000 And i am not an audiophile, so I don't think I need to install any subwoofers or amplifiers etc. Please help... and thanks in advance :)

Answer:
That's very good quality equipment. It should work well together. The only problem is you're not quite straight on the power of the Alpine. Like all head units they make a big deal about the 50w x 4 peak rating, unfortunately it will never produce anything close to that. If you look a little closer at the specs you'll see a realistic power rating of 18x4 which is about average for most in-dash units. For most people HU power is adequate to run 4 speakers reasonably well. If you get it installed and find you're not happy with the output a small 4 channel amp would make a significant improvement.

I believe that you would be much happier with sound of your stereo if you added a small amplifier to that setup. Even if you only bought a 50 watts rms 2 channel (50 x 2) for the front speakers and powered the rear speakers from the headunit it would sound much better.

just thought i would let you know the head unit you picked is fine if you never plan on using external amplifiers,it only has one set of RCAs and there only 2 volt.most likely for a sub woofer.but you have no place to power an external amplifier for speakers for mids and highs.i would suggest you buy a head unit that comes set up to run both external amplifiers,(RCA outs) to run subs 2 holes.and another set of RCA ins for running an external amplifier for mids and highs.4 holes in rear of your head unit.in total, you should have (4 RCA ins) and (2 RCA outs).the reason why im telling you this is when you run off the internal amplifier from your head unit, your only giving the speakers about 17 W RMS of power to each speaker.and if you decide you want them to receive more power you will have to add external amps.i would make sure you have a head unit that is set up for running external amplifiers, the head unit is the brains of the whole system. just in case you want to add them at a later date. if not you will have to swap out the head unit again.and even if you do not use them at all they will be there if needed and the price is not that much more.and if you decide to do this look for a head unit that has 4 volt pre outs and ins.good luck with your sound system.
