Car amplifier and sub?

Does anyone know how to set up a home enterainment system using your car sub woofer and amplifier?

  • i just recently sold my car but did not sell my sound system with it! now i have it at home doing nothing so i thought...is it possible to use my car sound system at home as a home entertainment system??? any suggestions???

  • Answer:

To use the amp, you must find one hefty power supply. A 13.8 Voltt DC @ 20 amp supply is about $100 and will run a 150 watts total RMS system. The subs and speakers alone are of 4 ohm impedance and cannot be wired to a home theater system simply because the home system is looking for an 8 ohm impedance and will shorten the life of the home system if wired up.

Sparky is right...basically you need a big power supply and then need to wire your speakers to create an 8 ohm impedance (though some car audio subs can be bought set up for 8 ohms). You're better off buying a home entertainment sub.

or u can get a power inverter and hook up a stereo deck to it then hook up your subs to the player as u would in ur car.. just like u see at walmart and stuff
