Answer:
that is a very hard question to answer, because anybody who answers it will be totally biased to the brands they personally prefer whether they are really good or not. that answer also depends on you budget and purpose of this vehicle. if you intend to enter sound-offs, then get ready to invest a heap o'cash! if you just want it to sound good for you and you alone (your friends included, of course!), then go by what you are willing to spend, because you won't necessarily shell out a lot of money. in real estate it's location, location, location. in audio, it's taste, taste, budget. budget brands: pioneer, jvc, some alpine models, sony. middle-high-end: some alpine models, JL audio, polk, audiobahn, orion, clarion pro-audio, eclipse, diamond, rockford. high-end: some alpine, JL,pioneer premier, boston acoustics, focal, kicker, and a lot more with funny names. brands to avoid: boss, pyramid, lightning audio (good accessories, bad amps + subs), crunch, pioneer or anything else FROM WAL-MART (not the same as pioneer's regular line!), etc. also, don't be decieved by popularity or price. soundstorm (a brand most people never heard of) has very inexpensive amps, but look at the specs! much better THD and S/N ratios than many amps at twice the price. also, avoid coaxial (i.e. 2- or 3-way) speakers if they mount through the main cone. the dust cap is an absolutely necessary part of the cone structure. if you get a multi-way speaker, make sure that the tweeters are mounted to the frame of the speaker instead of through the motor structure. use component speakers instead, and if you can fit them get ROUND speakers vice oval ones (like 6x9's). round speakers exhibit far less distortion and can typically handle more power. also, the seperate tweeter allows for much better sound stage set-up. higher frequencies need to be aimed or reflected off of surfaces, lower frequencies diffuse. for the subs, make sure they are all in their own, individual enclosures (not sharing any air space behind the cone). any more information from me would take up a ridiculous amount of space.

your top brands would be kicker, alpine,jl, and mtx.. i personally recommend kicker. ive had 2 12 in kicker subs for 3 years now and they pound as hard as ever. sony and pioneer subs are cheap and dont last very long. spend a little extra money for the better brands and you wont be disappointed.. u can never go wrong with kicker.

Sony sucks at car audio and Pioneer is ok. If you want to get an awesome system try a Eclipse head unit. For the subwoofers one of the best systems is Resonant Engineering.

how much u willing to spend. sky is the limit pretty much and unless your planning on entering sound comps or just want to show off 4 subs is to many 2 quality subs will work just fine and are just as capable at making u go deaf just as fast. start with a really good head unit with all the outputs u plan on using. the wrong head unit could cause a wiring nightmare and not provide ample outputs or strength. for highs and mids i highly recommend component speakers over coaxial. they have separate tweeters and drivers(mid speaker) where a coaxial has the tweeter and driver all built into 1 unit which provide much more distortion. then get a pair of subs. key to all subs is proper air space for the speaker. a mono block amp and a four channel amp. stay away from garbage brands and u will be alright Jensen boss Lazar and many more. some brands i recommend are jl kicker mtx alpine boston acoustic and mb quart. for a great system just in hardware(speakers amps head unit) be prepared to spend 4k and then don't cheap on wire. good wires and wiring will make more of a difference than u expect. installer for 5 years and car audio video enthusiast
