If i get two 250 watt front speakers and two 250 watt 6x9's in the rear what kind of head unit should I buy?
-
The speakers I'm looking at getting are the Pioneer TS-A1781R for the front and the Pioneer Premier TS-A6962R for the rear. I really don't know what kind of head unit i should get for the out put power and that kind of stuff...i also am looking for one that has the pre amp connections for a sub that i could put in later on. Any help would be great!

That's a good question, for it is said that a true 20 Watts per speaker, in a car with four speakers is quite loud. The speaks that you list, like the front ones are 250 Max power capability, but 50 Watts nominal. Nominal the key word here. Meaning that if you average out the music that is playing, lets say it has some 100 Watt drum beats along with a lot of 20 Watt vocals, it may average 50 Watts, IE: kind of nominal. That 250 rating is there to make sure it handles the crashes and bangs in the music, ( think of them as spikes in a graph ). If you were to feed 250 Watts of pure power into them they would smoke. One of the Golden rules is that garbage in = garbage out. So Amping up a lousy head unit just Amps up the distortion that the crappy unit puts out. You can get some nice head units with true 25 Watt RMS outputs along all four channels. I have a 250 Watt house receiver with surround banging away at four Yamaha's with Reference One rears, and at half volume you bet the neighbors can hear that. Think of that in your car??? So in short look for clean high power head units that sound good to you, pre amp driver outputs are very common these days. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FAl0OHObhgm/

There is no head unit made that will juice 500watts and do it clearly. You will want to, and need an amp to power this clearly and at the power levels you require. Currently you can buy a deck that puts out about 300 watts, but not as clear as a four channel amp. I would reccomend a kenwood or kicker 4- channel amp.....You also need to look at your deck to see that it has at least 3 sets of pre-outs for a 4-channel amp and one for a sub amp. If that is not an option, you may want to reconsider your choice of speakers..Most door and dash speakers are only rated at 100-120 watts...which is loud as hell if they are good speakers and will handle all of it.

you have 250 watt speakers, yet the deck will only put out about 22 rms per speaker. if you want the 250 watt capability, you need another amp son. no deck will give you the 250 watts per speaker without an amp. sorry
