Why are my subs constantly hitting as soon as I turn them on?

Headlights dim when subs hit, also subs stutter too?

  • -i have 2 12" kicker crv, running on a orion 2400 watt amp -When i turn it up the bass starts hitting, but when I turn it up a little more, the subs start stuttering and my cars headlights dim -I was told i should change my car battery and add a capaciter and that should fix my subs stuttering and lights dimming problem -Any suggestions?

Those orion amps are beasts! Unreal power. I'm almost jealous. A 2400 watt one uses more current than your stock alternator can supply. That's why your subs stutter. A cap, by itself, won't help without having enough current supplied in the first place. You're going to have to get a HO alternator (at least 200 amps) to supply enough amperage. With one of those, a wire upgrade (big 3) is needed. Those 2 things should take care of your lights dimming. If it doesn't, add a cap that's upwards of 3 farads, then your dimming will be gone. Plus your subs won't stutter anymore because the cap is holding that reserve amperage for your amp.

A capacitor will NOT fix your problem. What you need to do is research an upgrade called the "big 3" and that should take care of all your dimming. Its the best upgrade, and cheapest, you can do to ur car (in terms of electrical). A HO Alternator isn't needed for your amp, which is probably not anywhere near 2400w...

A stiffening capacitor is supposed to cover those high power transient demands, but that is limited. There is just only so much power available and when you turn the bass up too high for the power from your alternator, you get distortion instead of music. You need a higher power alternator or just don't overdrive your stereo into distortion. If you look at the remediies- money on a stiffening cap, money on a heavier duty more powerful alternator, or a little restraint on the volume knob, the real sensible answer will be clear to you.

That is exactly what you need to do is add a capacitor. It will collect power per say so when the amp draws the power it is available from the capacitor and doesn't steal it from all your other systems, ie your lights.

i would get an amp alternator. and change your battery if you want. a capacitator isnt gonna do anything though. it will just provide your amp with plenty of power but do nothing for your car.

do the big 3 first then add a high output alternator or buy a kinetik battery rather than a capacitor
