How to wire an amp in a car without a deck?

Remote wire and power wire for external amp in my car draining battery?

• I have an 8 gauge wire running from my battery straight to my amp and i have a seperate remote wire running from the deck to my amp, I used to have both power and remote running through a 14 gauge wire from the back of my deck but I recently put in the 8 gauge power wire and left the remote where it was, now my amp wont turn off which drains my battery. I woke up this morning to a dead car. the only way to keep the amp from draining the battery is to disconnect the power wire completely, what is wrong with my remote? comment or email me for more questions.

  If you disconnect the remote wire from the amp, does it stay on? If so, then check and make sure no loose wire strands from the power terminal are crossing over and touching the remote terminal. If there's nothing in contact with the remote terminal, and the amp is staying on, then it needs to be serviced. Otherwise, you need to make sure the other end of the remote wire is connected to a power source that turns on and off with the radio (or at least with the key switch). By the way, the remote wire carries a positive voltage--it's not a "negative" wire, whatever that's supposed to mean. And it's pointless to upgrade to 4-gauge power wire if the amp doesn't require it.
