What kind of amp should I get for my subs?

What kind of amp and subs should I get?

  • I don't really know a whole lot about stereo systems, but I recently purchased a new honda civic. I already have installed a JVC KD-AVX2 and want to get an amp and some subs installed pretty soon. I want something with bass that can be heard from down the street but it doesn't have to be competition subs or anything like that. I would like to keep it under $600 for the amp and subs and would like quality brand that won't break in a few months. Any advice on what I should get? Thanks.

To get an amp, remember that brand names control better power. In my experience, the rockford fosgate punch and the soundstream are the cheapest but best amps. the top of the line amps are like phoenix gold. the wattage on amplifiers measure the power output, but the rockford and soundstream have a better power supply that filters better, and has better voltage stability along with better power drain capabilities. With subs, they all work, but JL audio is known for the best. THe cheapest are JL series 1 and the most expensive are JL series 7. Make sure to match the power rating input to the rated power output of the amp as close as possible. You will also need a Low pass crossover to filter high frequencies. Some amps have this feature already, if not you must buy one. That is the general Idea. You get what you pay for in this field, and they stay consistent. alpine pioneer and jbl are the middle and then the rest are lower. ( I might be forgetting some but the statement is true)

well most of the crap like that is too expensive to buy,my amp was 130 dollars, its 1200 watt,i got 2 10 subs, plus 4 6x9 speakers plus the regular car speakers,so my truck is LOUD,but i dont really blare it when im in there, cuz i bring my dog to work with me.,i jus use the loudness when im workin under the hood,i can jus flip the key and boom baboom, lol.i suggest you get 12's with a 1500 watt amp, then thatll be loud as hell. good luck

There are some store fronts that sells what we call an amp & sub package deal. Most of these packages are between 300-400 watts (pending where you're from) and it includes the enclosure as well. All you have to really pay extra for is labor, parts and shop supplies. A few months ago when I use to work for a retail shop, I would offer 3 different lines and let the customer decide what they think is best for them. (GOOD) Orion: - HP2800 - (2) 12" C2 - Sealed Enclosure (BETTER) Kicker: - ZX300.1 - (2) 12" Comps - Sealed Enclosure (BEST) Rockford Fosgate: - P300-1 - (2) 12" P1 Series - Sealed Enclosure Cost: $349.95 for the Rockford and Kicker pckg. $299.95 for the Orion pckg. Don't forget to take in account your labor, amp wiring kit and shop supplies. Any of these set up will get you bumpin' in no time. Good Luck!
