What are some good 6x9 speakers with a good bass response?

Do 6x9 speakers in a ported box have better bass?

  Only if you can find the proper thiele/small parameters to do so. Without that information it will pretty much be a shot in the dark. Also another aspect to consider is speakers designed for vehicle stock locations normally are meant to play in an infinite baffle using the trunk or internal door space as the box. This means a speaker that needs a fairly large enclosure or one that has a high Q (peaky) in it's low end response. This is fine for doors or decks, but if put into those small size 6x9 boxes you see being sold then it's response could very well be hindered. This is not to say that none will work, but to have it be satisfactory you need to have t/s parameters to make sure. Now as far getting bass behind the seat, there are some very inexpensive alternatives that will do just as good if not better depending on what you desire. A small single low powered ported 8" will do the job.
