Wireless Subwoofer?

Recently got a subwoofer...but it plays no treble or with my other speakers?

  • Basically, I got given a subwoofer by a friend who was also given it..it's a chinese make (Sansui) but looks decent enough, online research shows it's about 80W power and produces sounds as low as 15Hz. However, when I hook it up to my Sony Mini Hi-Fi system, although the main hi-fi system controls the subwoofer (through volume and other settings you can control the subwoofer) it won't play the Sony speakers..so all I get is a really heavy bass without any treble at all (well, there is very very faint treble sound). I tried adjusting the treble on the subwoofer but it seems to do nothing to either the subwoofer sound or speaker sound. I'm wondering if I need an amplifer.. but I thought I wouldn't as I think my subwoofer is an active subwoofer (it powers itself.. If i wanted i could play music through it without any hifi system). So, my problem is, when I connect my subwoofer to my hifi system (using a two input [subwoofer end] and one output [hifi end, into the "phone" jack]..it only plays the subwoofer without treble. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Do I need to buy an amp? is the subwoofer any good? i know it works well as the bass produced is fantastic!

    The problem lies in you connection of the 'Sub' to the phone output socket. This in itself will disconnect the system loudspeakers and only send audio to the sub. Are there no other outputs on your Hi Fi for you to use?

sub woofers are for bass only if you want to hear words get other speakers

Active subwoofers come with a crossover that filters out everything but bass sound (like and EQ) so you can only use it to play low frequency sounds, to play mediums and highs you need a regular set of speakers.

subwoofers typically do not respond to higher frequencies. If you have an equilizer see if that is the problem.. Other than that it is probably your wiring.
