I have two 12" alpine type R subs going in my 1987 corvette in a custom made box. what amps should i get?
-
ok they are SWR-1242D, duel voice coil, 500/1500 rms/peak watts for power handling, power range is 200w-500w rms. 25Hz-500Hz. i was going to get two alpine mrp m-500's but idk if thats the right choice. im putting this in my corvette so i want this to be done right. and i have put dynamat in my whole car too. so if i get two alpine mrp m-500 amps and wire each sub at 2ohms will that be the best choice? my subs are 4 ohm so ill have to wire it down to 2 ohm.

There are more options, but these are the 2 lowest ohm loads you will get wiring into a single channel. This is a good quality amp that runs 900w rms at 1 ohm. You can use a bunch of different options on types of amps, but considering it's a vette and you are some what limited on space you may want to go with a single amp for your subs. I'm not sure if alpine makes a 1 ohm stable amp. Edit: You would wire the two coils on the sub in parallel then wire the sub to the amp. Do the same thing for both amps. This will give you a 2ohm load and 500w rms per speaker. Here is a link to the wiring diagram for each speaker to each amp. Use the diagram labeled 2 ohms. These amps are not 1 ohm stable, but don't need to be for your application.

Two mrp-m500's would be adequate, but I don't see the point in running two amps when one good mono would do it. Ideally the pdx1.1000 wired for 4 ohms would be perfect but it's $500+ (470 ebay).

If they are both dual 4, you can wire each to 2ohm and wire them together down to 1ohm. In that case you can get a good 500-1000watt rms amp that is stable at 1ohm and it'd power both of your subs. Might be cheaper than buying two amps as well. I provided a wiring diagram to wire both of the subs to 1 ohm. You'll get more from these subs wiring them down to 1ohm together than you would running each of them at 2ohm on a separate amp.

If it were my car i would buy a 500 rms mono block amp like this one: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500MRPM500/Alpine-MRP-M500.html?tp=115 Wire the subs together down to 2 ohms to get the full output from the amp.

You have two DVC 4ohms Type R subs that can only be wired at a 1ohms or 4ohm load.

With the DVC 4 ohm subs, using 2 amps that are stable down to 2 ohms or a single amp stable at 1 ohm would be best. A pair of MRP-M500's would be a good match. I'd recommend a single amp, similar in power output to the Hifonics BXi 1210D shown here: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17597_Hifonics+BXi+1210D.html A little more expensive, but certainly a better amp, the JL Audio J2 1000.1 is also well matched in power output into a 1 ohm load: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20628_JL+Audio+J2+1000.1+-J21000.1-.html It's easier to find room for one amp, and you'll only need one amp wiring kit.

your subs are dual 4ohm so you have wire them to 1ohm or 4ohm this amp will match perfect i kinda figured the price is decent but not outrageous since you want it done right http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_22282_Alpine_MRP-M2000.aspx
