  • 2 12" 1000 watt alpines are hooked up to a mono class d 1000 watt alpine amp in my chevy ext. cab pickup in a downward facing box under my seat i have already blown 2 1200 watt infinitys and now with these alpines my protection light comes on when i turn it up and they skip every now and then ... do i need bigger subs or since theyre under the seat is that messin them up....whats going on

what is the rms on your amp? You are probably pushing your amp too hard as well as your subs. If your amp is turned all the way up that will cause problems. Turn it way down and turn up the bass on your head unit... And i don't know what you mean downward facing, but that can mess up your subs if they are flexing and edges hitting your floor. I suggest getting a capacitor and a 2 channel amp and wire your subs parallel instead of series. Then just keep your amp at about half and use your actual stereo to push the bass. That should do the trick Good Luck!!

You need to make a mark on the volume knob where the damage occurs and keep the volume below that. What on earth does anybody need with a kilowatt slamming on them? Can you even see with that kind of physical abuse? If you say you can't hear it when it's lower, then duh- your ears are damaged severely and most likely permanently. Let me back down a little: If the amp is 2 ohm stable and you're using a couple of 2 ohm speakers connected parallel, the impedance total is lower than 2 ohms and that is a problem. Keep the impedance at or higher than the stability limit or the amp will draw excess current and there will be blood- I mean damaged components.

There is a moron that keeps saying a mono amp is for one sub "what an chuckle head " OK your Alpines are DVC 4ohm right. It sounds like they are wired down to 1ohm and that is too low for a class d alpine (2ohms is the lowest) http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/2DVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg This is the only way to wire those subs to that amp with out having it go into protect mode. This will kill the power to your subs. You need 2- 2ohm DVC subs or 2- 4ohm SVC to get the most out of this amp. Hope this helps

no.. you need smaller subs. lets look at the picture. 1 x 1000 watt amp, 2 x 1000 watt subs. turn down the input dial on the amp. you need LESS power or just use one sub and you will be golden.

i would recommend you get a 1000 watt 2 channel amp on them alpines. a mono amp is used for only one sub, hence the word "MONO" or you could downgrade subs to a lower wattage.

yes, you can do it this way, http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/2DVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg but i would never recommend anyone do that. Why else would i be called a mono (meaning 1) block amp? that defeats its purpose.

Yup, problem is too low of impedance for the amp, and even possibly not enough air movement in the restricted position of the speakers. Low impedance = unstable power output = protect mode. Low impedance = higher amperage = melted speaker coil. Dual voice coils are also more sensitive to heat build up, and especially inappropriate phasing. (wiring both coils in opposition to each other). If space restrictions limit air movement to where coils can't fully operate, then you have excessive heat. And yes, 1000 watts in a truck cab is deafening.

Hey forget what everybody said Christina p hit the nail on the head. She is absoultly right. Mono means one " channel" not just one sub. Some real idiots answered this question. Christina has the best answer and should get the pick
