My car stereo is making a static noise?

I'm setting up my car system and I have a lot of static noise when I turn the stereo on Help!?

  • Ok someone reassure me that the interference like static noise will pretty much go away when I am fully completed with the install! My head unit is the Pioneer Avic Z120BT. I have: -the amp power cable ran (not hooked to the battery or the amp yet) -Remote blue wire tapped into the headunit (not hooked to the AMP) -Speaker RCA patch hooked to the headunit (not hooked to the AMP) -Sub RCA patch hooked to the headunit (not hooked to the AMP) -Door speaker wires ran (not hooked to anything) I am waiting to the amp to come in, but I wanted everything else ran so I can just mount the amp and plug in. Wiring Routes: -Passenger side: Speaker RCA, Sub RCA, front right speaker -Driver side: Power, Remote Will this noise go away when completed? What is causing the noise? Should I run my driver side speaker with the power & remote cable, or run it across the dash and down the passenger side?

  • Answer:

If your RCA cables are connected to your head unit and the other ends are touching each other or something else it can cause a feedback or humming noise. Those carry from 2 to 4 volts usually. Also, be careful with that remote wire. That wire is live when the head unit is turned on whether it's connected to an amp or not. That wire carries around 11 volts.

you're getting a static lie noise? thats a bit abnormal considering you don't have an amp hooked up yet. usually that type of hiss comes from having your gains set too high. The other culprit would most likely be a ground loop somewhere in your system. http://www.termpro.com/articles/noise.html that article could provide some help to you.
