If they are CD-R discs that you have burnt at home, try playing them in a CD player at home first (not your pc). My car stereo will only play discs I have burnt if they are played in a CD player first. Strange, but seems to work!

Cheapest way to do this is to buy an mp3 transmitter you simply put your favorite tunes onto an SD card and plug into your cigarette lighter and tune your radio to a frequency and the transmitter plays through your car speakers if you look on e.bay item number 120231469135 that is what they do. It's just an example and i do not know the seller..........

It should already be able to do this....it should read it just like any other music cd you have. Good Luck.

Try using Some eye gasses cleaner on the cd then try putting it in!
I think you would need to replace the stereo. I dont think there is anyway to 'make' it recognise recorded CDs. An alternative could be an Ipod??

If you use a CD of the correct format or your auto player has multi format playback capabilities. Most older models will only playback CD-R type discs. If it is actually a CD-RW (Compact Disc -ReWritable) drive then it should be able to decode digital audio as well as other formats such as MP 3 (Motion Picture Expert Groups - 1 or mpeg-1). CD-R discs can be read on most all types of CD drive, including older CD ROM units. CD-RW discs, however require a decoder designed specifically for CD-RW discs which are different than CD-R discs. A CD-RW drive can, however, burn a CD-R disc for playback in either a CD-R format or CD-RW format. As long as you stick with the old "one-burn" CD-R discs then they should playback properly in your auto unit. Most new auto units are designed and engineered for multiple playback formats, just as home units are.

First, I'll assume you are talking about standard audio format and not MP3. Most car radios are not capable of playing MP3 format audio unless there is actually an MP3 logo on the face of the radio. I'll also assume you're talking about a factory radio. Some older car radios (early 90s) have problems playing CDRs. Most radios are capable of playing them. If you have a radio that won't seem to, you should try using a different recording software and/or different brands of CDRs. We have had trouble with Roxio recording software but have had good luck with Nero. As for brands, stick with name brand CDRs (Sony, Memorex, TDK, etc.) Don't use the cheapos that you get for next to nothing in bulk. You should also try recording at a lower speed than the maximum as we have found this to sometimes create problems.

nope- you'll have to invest into a new stereo{like Christmas to my ears} i love getting a new radio/// my suggestion though if that hasn't crossed your mind as the first thing to do to the car before saying its yours... get a MP3 Player 50pounds up/down and they sell these little FM transmitters that plug into your d c outlet and some will charge the MP3 player at the same time... load everything into the MP3 and plug it into the transmitter.. you may find plug and play more efficient and useful than getting a new stereo, installing it and only playing CD's
