Advice on buying subs and an amp?

Buying a monoblock amp for my subs...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

  • I just bought two 12-inch 2-ohm DVC subs that are rated at 750w RMS a piece. I plan to wire them as a 2-ohm load to a monoblock amp, so I know I need an amp that will push roughly 1500rms at 2ohms to my subs. PLEASE help me choose an amp!!! Im torn between getting a CEA-power certified amp like Kicker, Kenwood, JBL, Rockfort etc and an "off-name" amp like Boss or Soundstorm which is obviously a lot cheaper but apparently breakdown and have inflated power ratings. I was all set to get a 3600 (1850rms x1 @ 2ohm) Boss amp for $150 brand new but got scared away by people telling me they are garbage. Also, I dont want to underpower my two new Kicker cvx 12s either. However I read a lot about people powering them with amps that are CLEARLY rated below 1500rms and not having any problems. So confused...thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

Good idea holding up on the Boss. It has 3x35A fuses, probably 1200w rms at best and questionable reliability. I would look into the Hifonics bxi1210d or 1610d, the audioque aq1200d, and the mbquart dsc1500.1d. Those all split the difference between brands like Boss and higher priced stuff like RF. Edit: my bad - you clearly stated you're working with a 2 ohm impedance -- all those amps run optimally at 1 ohm.
