What do i need for a sound system in my car?

I need to know what i need for a small but nice car sound system, and how to install it?

  • I have a mitsubishi galant so i wont need any thing HUGE, but i need to know what to buy... what all do i need for a system?

  • Answer:

if you want simple, just get a head unit, preferably one that will play mp3 as well as cd, if your stock speakers sound good, keep them, if your looking for something clearer and more durable or louder, get yourself some replacements, you don't need a 5 or 6 channel amp if you get a decent head unit it will play sound out of your speakers just fine, a 2 to 4 channel amp will be fine say around 600 watts, and 2 10" or 12" subs whatever you prefer. and the wiring, rca cables, amp power, ground, remote wires preferably 4 gauge, and some fuses, and speaker wire. I have 1 ten inch pioneer and it hits harder than most pairs of speakers of the same range, it all depends on how much money you have to spend and how loud you like your music. Just use your best judgment. have it installed by a friend who knows how to do it, or take it to a shop it will only cost you the parts and maybe $100-$150 install, some is usually included in the prices if you buy the stuff from them.

I would contact www.crutchfield.com for some advice. You can get everything there at a great price. If you call them they can make suggestions and make sure you get everything you need. They even offer installation cards so you can get it installed at a local shop. What you need to know is if you want high sound quality, thumpin' bass, or somewhere inbetween. For a complete system you will need a head unit (am/fm/cd), a 5 or 6 channel amp, front speakers (I recommend separate mids and highs with a crossover), rear speakers, and a sub.

im guessing you dont know much about car audio so you wont need an extravagant system. all you need is a head unit ( a cd player) aftermarket speakers and a powered subwoofer like the bazooka bass tube. this setup will sound way better than the stock system.

a new deck, speakers, and a sub or 2... its pretty simple. and pretty cheap. for the wiring kit, go to wall mart!! trust me, you get all the wires you need (power, ground, rca's, speaker wire, 2 different kinds of fuses, etc) for like $26.00!!!
