Why does my car audio cuts out?

Why when I turn up my car audio system it cuts out when the bass hits hard?

  • I have two 15 inch orion 2nt speakers (1000 max watts/500 watts rms each) in a sealed box, and a boss rip d3 amp (3000 max watts/1200 watts rms). Wire is all 14 gauge speaker wire, but no power capacitor. When bass hits really hard lights go dim, and sometimes cd player skips. Cd player is a dual 208 watt cd player. Please help me fix this problem.

  • Answer:

looking at the specs for that amp you don't need to run a cap or get a better batt. you need to run god wire. run some good 4 gauge for power and you can even run 8 for the ground. just make sure the ground is located in a good spot. also make sure you keep the ground and power wires as short as possible. more important for the ground though. i am running a big excelon mono block in my 85 S-10 blazer that is running my Alumapro M-16 and my light do not dim. so don't listen to all the bull about a cap and alternator. just have a batt that is in good condition and is a little bigger than the one the car comes with stock. a deep cycle works well. you can even get a red top optima. that will fit in your car just right. hope this helps.

what gauge power wire do you have ?? for a system like that you should have a 4 gauge or zero gauge power wire and your going to need a cap to keep the lights from dimming

i love cars

yes u should replace your batt optima will handle it the best of any other

get bigger wire that wire is not rated for that much power first run 0 gauge wire for power and ground and get bigger speaker wire. The amp may not be able to run the speakers at full power try turning down the power as well.

First of all... I hate to say this, but you will never get even the 1200 watts RMS out of that Boss amp. Second, how do you have the subs wired up to the amp? If you have them bridged, make sure that amp will handle the Ohm load. I wouldn't run anything less the 12au speaker wire to subs. Next thing is make sure you have at least 4au power wire if not bigger. (ie 2au or even 0au) You can always put a distro block next to the amp(s) to down size the wire. I would also upgrade your battery. I run an Optima yello top in my truck and I noticed a difference in the sound right away. (Bass hits a little harder)

you are definatly having a power problem. your amp and the rest of the car is not getting enough power.
