depends on what kind of car you have to what you need. how much space do you have in your trunk and what not. get back with me and ill try to help you out on it.i had a 94 mustang here a while back. i had two memphis 10s and i had bridged amps. i had one 400 watt vision amp and a 500 watt kicker amp. i placed the two subs in my trunk (which they barely fit, i had to sqeeze them in there) and i mounted the amps onto the sub box and just ran my cables and wires to the cd player and the battery. it was one of the best sound systems i ever had. but now im trying to get me a car and start over with my stereos. my friend has one that i admire alot. he has two kicker 15s in the trunk of his eclipse and a 2000 watt amp. nice system. he has already had to replace his windows with poly carbon windows cuz he blew them out. to be honest your question to me is like asking how long is a piece of string!!! i could write a list of stuff to buy as long as your arm, but it all depends on what your after and what your budget is. if you add detail to your question i.e budget, car, what you want to achieve i will happily help you along the way.

you can buy subs in ready made enclosures with built in amplifiers but they tend to be fairly low in power compared to buying a seperate sub and amp. a 12" inch sub will provide more deep bass than 2 10" subs so it depends on the type of music you listen to

To start with I would go for 1/2 subs and amps in boot and a nice set of component speakers up front with a good head unit, obviously the budget/range for this will vary according to yourself, but thats the basis for a decent set up, how much you spend is up to you. Avoid 6x9's despite how many novas have them on the cardboard parcel shelf 10"sub- punchier bass 12"sub-deeper bass etc. 12" is fine for dance/trance/hard house/rnb
