Will any other factory radio work in a 2005 Ford Explorer?
-
I just bought a 2005 Ford Explorer and wanted to know if I could upgrade the factory 1 disc am/fm radio with the factory 6 disc am/fm indash cd changer or any other factory radio that Ford makes for my model. I called Ford and they said that I could not. No explanation just no. Does anyone know differently? I heard that it is just a matter of getting an adapter for the antanana. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
six disk changers and premium sound systems vary by model and features on the truck. Some will fit the hole but not have the on board amp to power standard grade speakers. Premium systems have multiple amps at the speakers and speed sensing and a lot of other things you should have checked the option box when ordering. Or get the hard loaded Eddie Bauer edition

they told you right ,,the explorer has its own type of radio,,part of this has to do with the way they did the dash,,and also the wiring harness on it is different,,as long as you stay with a explorer radio you,ll be OK,,i hope his helps.

its sad but true you cannot swap them... its not the antenna the plug is the same but your wiring harness is missing wires needed for proper function... not to mention a ford factory radio is $500 minimum. i would sugest removing factory and go aftermarket alpine has given me nothing but good times and dont take stereo advice from someone who cant spell audio

Steve M sounds correct on this. Any Radio can work in any vehicle. You may have to Splice Wires or you may be able to buy a connector. The Antenna should be same. It connecting all the Speaker and power wires that may be a problem, but, it can be done. David z seems to have your easy solution. Most of these radios easy to install and obtain a correct Adapter plug that will plug into your existing wiring harness of your truck and the radio fit your Hole as well, maybe with another adapter.
