What is a good, cheap GPS system for my car?

Good (cheap) car GPS system?

  • So, I want to get my grandpa something good for Christmas, and I know he likes to travel, so I thought of a GPS. Only problem, I really don't want to go past $100, but I don't want a crappy one. I honestly know NOTHING of GPS systems, help?

  • Answer:

if you catch it tonight, there is a magellan SE4 on sale on best buy's website for $89.99. GREAT deal. it has some extras, but not enough to make it confusing. they are really nice, i bought one for my mother who is 60 and she picked up on it the first day, uses it everyday now every place she goes. the link in the bottom is for the gps. happy holidays!

I got a TomTom One from Wal-Mart for $59

There are several units for under $100. They do not have a lot of frills since these will be basic units, but they are easy to use and completely reliable. Just do some careful shopping. Garmin, Tom Tom and Magellan units are all good. I would avoid all except "Name brand" units (above). There are a lot of cheap units out there, but if you buy one of the three above, you will be getting a unit from companies that know how to build a good unit and have good base maps! I have been using GPS since 1990 and have used Garmin and Magellan Units with great success! Good luck and good shopping!
